Week 3

This week is mainly to continue to do last week’s animation. Previous problems with the left hand and neck have been resolved, so the left hand and neck need to be readjusted. And the animation needs to add intermediate frames and parts of the buffer. And for the convenience of special effects, the movements and movements of characters need to be adjusted according to the normal situation. The reference video has parts of the speed up and the speed down, which have to be changed to the normal speed.

While continuing the animation, I asked zhou Qi, my classmate who knows martial arts. She pointed out some of the irregularities in this video. It took a bit longer because there were a lot of changes to make. First of all in order to move the painting. The wrist of the left hand is patent with the weapon. But as I said before, the weight of the left hand was not brushed properly, so after the weight was brushed again, the left-hand part was partially deviated, causing the hand could not hold the weapon. So this part needs fine-tuning. Some of the movements of the characters in the video are not standard. For example, the squatting horse steps directly into the knee, which is not standard enough. And because the character wears boots, the feet are hooked all the time. So the leg lifting part is very unnatural. This part also needs to be changed.

Finally, after watching my video, the teacher suggested that throwing up the weapon in the later part of rotation could make it rotate faster so that it would be fierce. After catching the weapon, the fierce stop would make people feel shocked and more handsome. So I’ve accelerated the rotation of the weapons in the back.

The second is the running movement. In front of this scene, there needs to be running like endurance. Because the video used as a reference is very stylized, there will be some differences when it is adjusted to a real person, so I need to solve this problem.

Week 1

The topic of Advanced and experimental 3D computer animation

Because I am studying abroad, I haven’t seen my cat for a long time. Therefore, I saw my cat Moqi during a video chat with my parents, and I miss him very much. So I plan to make a video with him as the protagonist and have finished my homework.

The second reason is that I have worked in a 3D animation company, so I know clearly that the motion capture technology has been used to solve the animation related to characters. Most of the role of our animators is just to adjust the motion capture. Animal-related animation, however, continues frame by frame. Even with the advent of cat or other animal capture technology. Because of the language gap between humans and animals, it is difficult for animals to perform in accordance with human ideas. So studying animal-related animation is very useful and irreplaceable in the short term.

At last I really missed my cat, Moqi. Every time I videotape with my parents, he always runs around and is not interested in me behind the camera. I really want to see him again and touch him.

Week 2 Story Board

Long shot: a single lens has been taken for a long time, without switching footage shot. Discontinuous clip. Jumping from one scene to another in a movie is called crosscutting. The film jumps between two lines of action to show that they are happening simultaneously in time and space. The advantage is to deliberately break the continuity of the clip.

Overlay: A piece of one-shot that is placed over another shot.

Montage: IS a series of quickly connected shots that combine individual shots through a theme or through time to create a third meaning.

Guideline composition

Week 2

Weapon Binding

Although the binding of this weapon is not mine, because I have experience working in other companies, I know what the binding of this weapon should look like, so I made my request with the binding at that time.

This door card was bound in the company I used to work for, and for some reason I couldn’t release the texture. However, it can be clearly seen that there are two controllers on it, because in the plot, this card will be called by one person, and the other person will hold it. If you have two locators, you can parent twice. One is the outer ring, then one is the middle locator.

According to the reference animation, the weapon required for this project requires three locators. First, the first locator needs to be parented to the hand. The second positioner controls it to rotate. The 3rd locator allows the weapon to bend. Because there are a lot of movements in the reference, it is very convenient to tie the outermost frame to the hand and then rotate it with the middle locator.
However, although the bound classmates helped me bind three locators, the box outside is a polygon instead of a curve. When I’m doing animations, I like to turn off all other options and leave only the curve option, so that I don’t mistakenly select other buildings or the model of the character itself. Because but because the outermost frame of this binding is a polygon, I can’t do this, and it will be very troublesome to do animation later, but it is not a big problem.

In the second week, I have adjusted the animation of the martial arts video I found last week, but these details cannot be adjusted temporarily because there is no locator on the neck of the model and the weight of the left finger is not brushed properly. I have sent the first version which has been adjusted so far.

I participated in two projects. In the first project, someone else did the shooting, so in the second project, I adjusted the shooting and 3D animation.

This project is mainly a CG demonstration. In that project, my partners are VFX professionals who want to show their modeling and rendering abilities. Therefore, the requirements for the lens are not particularly high, just need to pay a little attention to the direction of motion of the lens, after all, the direction of motion between two adjacent lenses needs to be different. For example, the first lens moves horizontally, then the second lens moves vertically as far as possible and the third lens moves diagonally as far as possible, which can make the whole lens and video components more complicated and make people feel interesting. Moving in the same direction all the time would be very boring.

Week 1

Our work in the first week is mainly to divide the team and determine the script. When I was chatting with students from other majors, a VFX major already had a script about martial arts. I was intrigued by this and wanted to do one of the animations about fighting, so I joined their group. Production of storyboards and animations. Since I had an internship experience at a 3D animation company, and I did exactly that during my internship, I thought I could do well. They have already found a reference for the animation of the fight that I need to adjust, and I just need to adjust the animation based on his reference.

Story Background

The martial god Ivy alone guards the artifact of his former comrade-in-arms (lover) by the sacred tree of the altar.

Thanks to the development of motion capture technology and cheap and fast UE4 rendering technology, 3D animation can be broadcast quickly and cheaply at the rate of one episode per week. In China, more and more online novels are sold by IP and adapted into 3D online animation. Different from traditional 3D animated films, most of the time they do not have a lot of technical content, as long as the modeling is good, the special effects are not bad, the fighting is intense, and the plot of the characters is not changed, they can be easily accepted by the audience. Of course, the novels chosen for adaptation are very well written or popular, so there will be a lot of popularity and traffic even before the animation adaptation begins. This is great for anyone who wants to invest in 3D animation and make a quick buck these days, just buy a popular fiction IP, and the production side only needs to be able to modify the motion capture and render using UE4. At present, many books and papers on animation are constantly studying how to make a film or 3D animation better, but there are few articles on 3D animation, which is very simple but can make money quickly. Nowadays, many such animations have been broadcast in China and have achieved high profits. Therefore, in this article, I will use the most successful network animation “Douluo Continent” as an example to discuss my views.

Adapted from the original fantasy novel of the same name by Chinese writer Tang Jia SAN Shao, the online animated series is co-produced by Penguin Pictures and Xuanji Technology. The development of Online literature in China has gone through a process of about 20 years. At present, Chinese online literature is one of the four cultural phenomena in the world, along with Hollywood, Japanese animation and Korean TV dramas. Online literature in China has 6.8 million online writers and 350 million online readers. (Zhang Wei, 2018)

The network animation Douluo Continent does not have a lot of changes in the plot. Douluo mainland novel is a typical cool prose, xiaobai prose. Shuang Wen is a relatively common type of web novels on various major novel websites. The characteristics of Shuang Wen are that the protagonist progresses smoothly from the beginning of the novel to the end of the story. Xiao Bai wen refers to the simple plot, the lack of the basic structure of the novel, and the repeated filling of meaningless words, making the content of the novel bloated. The plot is extremely routine, lack of thought, the content is plain, common in network novels. This does not mean that a novel is well written, on the contrary, it is often derogatory. But there is no denying, and it is very frustrating, that most people enjoy reading this kind of little white text. According to a survey of 2,030 people conducted by the Social Research Center of China Youth Daily, 67.6 percent of them preferred “easy and convenient reading”, 62.1 percent said “fresh language with a strong sense of The Times”, 60.3 percent said “creative freedom and variety of content”, and 54.6 percent said “grassroots and individual”. 33.6 percent said they can interact with authors and readers. (Hu Ming and Wang Congcong, 2010) The repeated cycle of “trough, climax and trough” makes Xiao Bai Wen the most suitable novel for the Internet to follow. For the reader, follow up… No need to take into account the complex and profound overall meaning, just a daily cool, can meet their busy life in the cultural entertainment needs. And the “practice” and “upgrade” presented by gamification also accords with the basic psychology of contemporary society. (Wang Kaiwen, 2019) Many people watch novels or animations not to appreciate a very good work, but to rest and relax after busy work. Therefore, they do not want to watch some very serious works, and their personality tends to conform to their own preferences, which can make them feel happy. This is also what douro mainland 3D animation does, with beautiful scenes and characters, gorgeous special effects, intense fighting, and mindless plot. Using dynamic complement technology and UE4 rendering, at a low cost to quickly broadcast the weekly episode speed, the story and the original almost no modification. But it is this 3D online animation that has become the first Domestic animation to break ten billion yuan in broadcast volume.

The fact that audiences prefer generic, unthoughtful, shallow content is bad news for those who want to create good, more artistic work. But it’s good news for newcomers or those who want to try out 3D first. You don’t need a lot of technology or a lot of investment, just buy the right IP, you can easily make money and experience.
